Building 12 Pier 70,
San Francisco

Along the iconic San Francisco waterfront, former ship warehouse Pier 70 has been transformed into a cultural hub of retail, community and creativity. A primary goal of the lighting was to remain true to the historic nature of the building while gesturing guests throughout the space in a thoughtful way. The unity of art and industry is echoed throughout the design, but particularly achieved in custom fixture flagging the entry portals of the warehouse. Massive six foot diameter metal discs spun by a local artisan, Kyle Minor, were transformed into reflectors for architectural monopoint lights that aim and uplight for a dramatic effect. The architect’s desired objective to have the warehouse’s architecture left to speak for itself was accomplished, architectural light simply celebrating the substance of centuries past.
